Austen Girls

It was brought to my attention recently by a kind reader that perhaps I should actually link my Austen Girls illustration to something that would explain what it is and why I have in on my blog page! Yes, this is my own illustration of our former pet hen Higglety-Pigglety; The original intention was that I would create an entire series based on this little fantasy I had of all of our hens having Austen-like names and wearing fancy bonnets. Well, the fact that we’re renters put the kibosh on chicken-rearing for now, so future illustrations which will be part of my Austen Girls set will have to be drawn strictly from my own, albeit ridiculous, imagination.

Lara (hi! found your blog and am loving it…)~ do you know about Nancy Luce? Your illustration reminds me of her and her profound love for her chickens. I was moved beyond words when I read this.

Saw you closed your Etsy shop and have your own divine website. I am eyeing your lovely Guinevere ring there…

Here’s another link, this one to her complete Consider Poor I book online… a treasure as it is hard to find. I am stalking my own personal copy on several websites. I must have it!

Such an amazing talent…I can see why you are stalking that book! I hope you get your own copy soon!
Oh my gosh thank you so much for introducing me to Susan Branch! I can’t believe I’ve never seen her work before but, wow, AMAZING. You’re sweet to share that with me and I appreciate your kind words about my shop! Thank you! :)
:) Do you remember me? I ordered earrings from you and helped your mom find her blueberry dress for your wedding. Small world…
Susan Branch is the best. She makes me want to curl up and read cookbooks in bed under an old quilt with a big bowl of berry cobbler and ice cream. Her illustrations have graced my classroom bulletin boards for years; I save every calendar page to reuse year after year seasonally. My students always love reading every last detail and studying her wonderful pictures. Her Halloween drawings are my favorites. You will want every one of her cookbooks; they’re actually fantastic recipes, not too complicated, and again… the illustrations. Divine.

Of course! I knew I remembered your name…how could I have not made the connection? My mother loved her dress, by the way. :) Your classroom sounds like such a warm and inviting place; you have some lucky students. I’m going to check out Susan Branch’s Halloween illustrations right now!
Well, I quit teaching in June and am LOVING my time at home. Your blog inspires me with what to do with some of that time… autumn is coming; isn’t it perfectly wonderful?

It is so wonderful! Good for you being able to leave teaching and enjoy your time at home. It’s the best, isn’t it? :D
