I’d like to make my own rose water. What species of roses would be best for this process i.e sweeter etc.. Would this nectar(assuming from the petals??) preserve boldly in a spirit? In addition, do you have any pointers in doing so?

    All the thanks,

    Sheldon

    Hi Sheldon,
I’ve never made rose water myself, although that’s something I have wanted to try! The best roses for this process would probably be those of the Rosa damascena, the Damask roses which are also used in the perfume industry. Their petals are very fragrant. Of course, also important to remember, you want to use petals that have absolutely not been treated with any chemicals of any kind. As for a recipe, I found this site to be useful. Last, my understanding is you don’t want to steep the petals too long or you will lose the rose scent. Good luck!
