Celebration of Roses, January 3: Basye’s Purple Rose
Link to HMF: Basye’s Purple Rose
Acquired From: Antique Rose Emporium
Own Root? Yes
Would I Grow Again? Yes
Notes: I loved this rose so much in our NC garden it was the first one to reserve for the new garden here in PA. The coloring is gorgeous from the velvety richness of the petals to the wine-hue of the canes. Tip: Plant this rose where it will be backlit by the setting sun.
There are more roses on my wish list than I have room for, or energy to tend, but Basye’s Purple remains on the list. The stamens look like frayed silk ribbon against the dark velvet of the petals to me.
It’s definitely one to make a little room for….you’ll love it!
