Happiness in a Box!

Whenever the UPS truck pulls up in front of our house I instantly pop up from my desk and watch to see if he’s coming to our door (if you’re picturing something along the lines of a prairie dog, you’re not too far off). I wasn’t expecting any deliveries today so I was completely baffled as to why he was here for me and then I saw THE BOX. You know the one, covered in roses? And the happy dancing began! I didn’t know my David Austin roses were coming today, and it couldn’t have come at a better time as I was feeling blue all day and this instantly cheered me up. Truly happiness in a box! The roses (these are all own-root) were removed at once and are now soaking in some Moo Poo tea. I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow! Oh PS, here’s what I got: ‘Crown Princess Margareta’, ‘William Shakespeare 2000’, ‘Strawberry Hill’ and ‘Jude the Obscure’.

  1. Ours came today too! Our box was a little beat up and our planter boxes aren’t quite ready! Agh! Of course I’m already failing at rose-ing. I have them sealed up and tucked in the coolest corner of our basement until this weekend. Any other tips to keep me from killing them?

      1. Yay! Congratulations! You’re going to love them. 🙂 As far as preparing them for planting, I would take them out of the box now and start soaking the roots in water (or compost tea if you have it!) It’s OK to let them soak for a few days until it’s time to plant. Definitely make sure that they’re not allowed to dry out. Misting the canes once and a while with water is also a good idea. Keep them out of direct sun and they should be ready to plant this weekend. Good luck!
