Song Sparrow Preening

Please forgive me for sharing these goofy bird pictures with you. I really don’t get out very much. These sparrows have claimed our front garden and I couldn’t be more delighted because all day long they hunt insect pests in the rose garden to feed to their noisy babies (I think we’re on round two this summer–another bunch just hatched). They’ve gotten used to me always being around and will allow me to get pretty close. I’m not quite at Snow White status but I’m working on it. 😉 These sparrows, along with a myriad of other backyard birds, use our garden as their Roman Baths and I’m confident they think all the hard work we did putting up trellises and support structures were for them to perch (and poop) on. In all seriousness, though, don’t forget to leave a birdbath out this summer–especially with these hot, dry temps. The birdies will thank you!

Edit: Oh and also please excuse the quality of these photos; they were taken through a dirty glass storm door.
