November 15

Friends, I have news: We’ve sold our North Carolina house and moved back to our “home town” in Pennsylvania. In fact, this day marks one month in our new home, which, coincidentally is only about 7 miles away from the one we lived in when I first started Hedgerow Rose. There is so much to talk about in regard to the why’s and the how’s including: how we left the new garden in NC, what we brought with us to PA, and what kind of garden we’re going to be working with here, but I’ll save that for later. For now, I just wanted to share this with all of you (although my Asheville friends learned of this already, of course) so there wouldn’t be any confusion when I start posting photos from Pennsylvania, again! Until next time….

  1. Happy 1 month in your new home, coincidently my daughter Stella Rose is one month exactly! New beginnings all around. 🙂 I can not wait to hear all about the new garden plans and see any home posts!

    1. Oh my gosh you had your baby!!!!! Congratulations, Kimberly, I am so so happy for you. And what a wonderful name choice, too! 😀

      1. Thanks! We are still in the Nicu, but she’s doing much better and hopefully we will be home in the beginning of January. Just in time to dream up plans for the garden and learn to prune the roses. 😉 haha

        1. Aww bless her heart. I can’t imagine how stressful this has been for you. Sending hugs…and hopes for her to be able to come home, soon!

  2. Omg!!! I have been wondering what’s been going on with the possible move! Sooo super excited to hear ALL about, including what you took and how you took it! I want to hear all of it! Congratulations in the new Home and wishing you the very best!!! ps. maybe some of your old roses at the rental house have survived and you can get cuttings in the spring???

    1. Thank you Holly!! 😀
Well….I am sad to say most of the roses I planted at the original garden (and other things like the heirloom lilacs) were removed and who knows what happened to them. My husband and I drove past the other day and were like “WOW it looks so different…” BUT! I brought, like, 50 or so of our roses that were in pots. It was a whole thing, I’m sure you can imagine, but I’m so looking forward to setting up the new garden this spring. I have lots to say about the one we left in NC. I’m just thinking about how I can get everything that I’ve been noodling around in my head out in a way that will be helpful to others. Coming soon, I hope. 🙂

      1. Good luck with your move! We are embarking on what seems like multiple pilgrimages to PA., relocating from Southern Nevada ( Las Vegas to be exact). I intend to begin collecting roses sometime in late Spring.

While I am not a newbie rose grower, I have only done so in a warm zone 9a, free of any significant disease or pest issues. I am looking forward to reading all you post regarding your new PA home/garden.

        1. Hello Lynn, welcome! How exciting to be moving back east. I think you’re going to really love it here but it will definitely be a dramatic change for you. If you’re curious to see more roses grown in Pennsylvania, all of the posts on this blog from 2010 to 2015 were written about our garden here in State College, PA, zone 6. Hope that helps!

  3. Laurie, best of luck to you with the new move. I know it was something you’ve contemplated for a long time. I can’t wait to see your new gardening adventures. Happy holidays!

    1. Thank you, Doug! Yes, it was definitely something we had been thinking about for a while and we’re glad we took the leap. I hope you also have a wonderful Holiday Season!

  4. Congratulations! I would be very interested to hear what roses you couldn’t live without in your new location. Any chance you’ll shed some light on that? Even your top 10? Thank you!
