‘Celsiana’ Damask Rose
How to describe the delicate, almost ethereal beauty of ‘Celsiana’ that old Damask rose? I suppose I should just let the photos speak for themselves but I will say the following: this is the 3rd season for our ‘Celsiana’ grown from a rooted cutting. It doesn’t get too cross with me for being in a semi-shady section of the garden but would probably be even larger/fuller if it were in all-day sun. ‘Celsiana’ is fragrant (Peter Beales stated it was worth growing for it’s fragrance alone) and produces lovely hips in autumn!
{EDITED TO ADD: It has come to my attention that some nurseries are NOT selling the correct ‘Celsiana’. If you’d like to know specifically which nursery to NOT purchase from, please message me privately. I continue to be amazed at how many roses are sold with the incorrect name from “reputable nurseries” and no one seems to do anything about it, but that’s a topic for another day. If you want the real ‘Celsiana’ you can try Burlington Roses who is propagating the correct one. I wrote more about this on my Instagram.}
Those petals look like the skirt to a ballerina!
they really do!
Ohhhhh, these photos make my heart flutter.
I think Damasks are my fav because of the ancient history behind them! I am planning on def. getting Autumn Damask for sure!
Wonderful! You should try making rose water with the petals! (And then let me know how it works.
)
Haha will do
I just discovered your site, and am really enjoying it. I was searching for Celsiana after having seen it in a New York City garden just this last week. I know it’s a little late to buy anything unusual this year, so I just put in an order to buy this for next spring. What a gorgeous rose.
Hi Evan, thank you and welcome!
You’re going to love Celsiana…it’s still one of my absolute favorites!
After spending the last few months reading through most of your blog history, you convinced me to order a few Celsiana from Heirloom Roses, who has them in stock right now. Their photos do nothing for me but I want more diversity in my collection and you sold me with your photos and adjectives!

Ooohhh, I’m feeling the pressure!
Seriously, though, I do hope you like Celsiana. I think she is so graceful and lovely and I’m looking forward to hearing what you think!
